Traditional Apical Surgery vs. Endodontic Microsurgery

Performing apical surgery has become much more predictable due to the new technology in endodontics; involving the operating microscope, microsurgical instruments, and the CBCT. The lecture will cover all the major aspects of modern endodontic surgery, from case selection to armamentarium and show each step to performing successful apical surgery. The lecture will focus on differences between traditional apical surgery and endodontic microsurgery, as well as success rates/prognosis with modern surgical techniques. Hemostatic agents, bio-compatible root end filling materials, and safe management of the mental nerve will also be discussed. Many clinical cases will be shown, utilizing these techniques.

At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to:

  • Diagnose and treatment plan when endodontic microsurgery is indicated.
  • Gain an understanding of the latest instruments and techniques in performing endodontic microsurgery.
  • Understand the differences between traditional apical surgery and endodontic microsurgery.
