Bone Regeneration

About Bone Loss

The more severe cases of gum disease and gum infection can result in permanent bone loss. Bacteria slowly eat away at the bone as well as the ligaments that connect the bone to the tooth. Loss of bone means the tooth is no longer well-supported, which may result in tooth loss.

Fortunately, bone loss can be treated to give you strong and healthy support for your teeth. The team of highly trained periodontists at Metro West Orthodontics & Periodontics can help regenerate the health of the bone.

Bone Regeneration Surgery is a procedure that naturally restores your jawbone back to health. It starts with your periodontist cleaning out the diseased part of your gums to remove any plaque or tartar beneath the gum line. The gums are then pulled back, and membranes are placed over the damaged bone to allow optimal healing. Over time, the membranes allow the bone to be regenerated and the tissue is re-engineered to create new, healthy bone.

Types of Bone Regeneration Surgery

At Metro West Orthodontics & Periodontics, we offer multiple Bone Regeneration Surgery options customized for your unique situation:

Bone Grafting

The Bone Grafting procedure is a traditional method that involves various bone grafting materials to be inserted into the defected area and stimulates new bone to grow.

Guided Tissue Regeneration

This procedure is more recently developed and involves guiding the proper tissue to heal the gum defect with a resorbable biologically engineered collagen membrane.

Tissue Engineering

The latest procedure involves using the proteins to induce tissue formation that will support the bone that was lost to gum disease. The cells placed into the defect stimulate the growth of new bone.
